Stu Gilman
Stu first met Kelly Wright, president of Seniors Rock and Roll in New England over 35 years ago. by her dad Dr. Bill who became is first entrepreneur mentor.
He worked as a software/technology consultant to large companies in New England for many years, then In 2008, he formed External Resources, Inc in order to increase his reach beyond operating as a consultant. In addition to his work at External Resources, Stu has been an active contributor to other technology startups.
Due to his long-standing friendship with two of Transworld of Tri-Valley's co-founders, he jumped at the opportunity early on to make a difference with families of small businesses by becoming a partner at Transworld, a Central Valley-based M&A firm.
Beyond his professional pursuits, he believes in giving back to his community in many ways, having worked with a number of local non-profits including being on his church board, and helping with many local election campaigns.
As a result of his strong interest in Economic Development, Stu was asked by some local leaders to run for the Modesto Irrigation Board of Directors in 2017. He personally reached out to over 3,000 homes during his campaign, and was successful in his election bid. MID is a publicly-owned company that provides retail electricity to approximately 129,000 customers and over 3,000 irrigation accounts. This role has been amongst the most significant of his long career, as he has the opportunity to not only serve his community, but also he has found himself having some responsibilities with being a steward over our precious water resources here in California.
With such a wide range of interests and an enthusiasm for the future, Stu brings a fresh perspective to all that he does, and a natural leadership style that is both contagious and inspiring. He partners with clients to help them sell or buy businesses, mostly due to a desire to transition from business ownership to retirement or to carve out a piece of the American Dream through business ownership.
Stu believes strongly in balancing business success with his personal life. He is first and foremost a “Jesus Guy”, and he and his wife Joni have been married for over 29 years. Along with being an active father of five amazing adults, he is blessed to be a grandfather to six wonderful grandkids.
